Golf Course Architect
William Walker “Bill” Amick (born June 16, 1932, Scipio, Indiana) established his own golf course architecture practice in 1959 after assisting legendary designer William H. Diddel.
He joined the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) in the late 1960s, serving as treasurer, vice president and president (1975–1977), and was later named an ASGCA Fellow. His career spans over 75 courses, including Killearn Country Club (host of multiple PGA- and LPGA‑Tour events) and numerous executive, par‑3, and family-oriented layouts designed for accessibility, lower cost, and environmental efficiency.
More recently, he has advocated for shorter-format golf and innovative concepts like par‑3 “pitching clock” layouts. Amick’s background includes a BA from Ohio Wesleyan University (1954) and service as a US Air Force officer where he managed a base golf course.
His designs reflect a commitment to inclusivity and playability, seeking to broaden golf’s audience through thoughtfully scaled courses and design innovations.
