Golf Course Architect
Enrique Canales Busquets was a Spanish golfer and golf course designer deeply instrumental in developing golf on the Costa del Sol. Originally from Bilbao and a passionate player since 1961, he transitioned from club director roles—such as at Aloha and Los Naranjos—to shaping prominent golf venues across Andalusia.
His projects include Islantilla (with Luis Recasens), La Siesta, La Dama de Noche, Santa Clara Marbella and Santa Clara Granada. Canales’s design for Santa Clara Golf Marbella, opened in 2001, is characterized by its parkland layout with broad fairways, minimal rough, open greens, and respectful integration with native flora, fauna, and the surrounding landscape.
He was honored by the Andalusian Golf Federation with a Medal of Merit in 1983, and passed away at age 82 in December 2014.
