Golf Course Architect
Ferdinand “Fred” Garbin (1928–2009) was a Penn State‑educated agronomist whose early passion for golf—beginning as a caddie—led to a distinguished career in golf course architecture. He joined the American Society of Golf Course Architects (ASGCA) as an associate in 1961 and was elected a full member in 1963, eventually serving as ASGCA president in 1968 and receiving Fellow status in 1999.
He designed and remodeled more than 100 courses, particularly across Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, and Puerto Rico. His work includes The Links at Erie Village in Syracuse and notable projects like Sewickley Heights, Crossgates, Meadowink, and Coamo Springs.
