Golf Course Architect
Gary Roger Baird is an American golf course architect with a career spanning over four decades. Educated in landscape architecture at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (class of 1968), he began his professional journey with the Robert Trent Jones firm as a senior architect before founding his own practice, Global Golf Design (also known as Gary Roger Baird Design International).
His work includes both new resort-style courses and renovations, often integrating environmental stewardship into his designs. One of his most notable projects is Barona Creek Golf Club (also referred to as Barona Resort Golf Course) in Lakeside, California, developed for the Barona Band of Mission Indians and opened around 2000–2001.
Baird’s design emphasized preserving natural terrain and native oaks, blending strategic bunkering with environmental sustainability, including water recycling and Audubon-certified habitat conservation. His firm has also executed projects domestically and internationally, spanning private clubs, resort facilities, and Native American developments.
