Golf Course Architect
Ken Killian (1931–2009) was an American golf course architect who earned a degree in City Planning and Landscape Architecture from the University of Illinois in 1957. He began his career apprenticing under Robert Bruce Harris in Chicago.
In 1964, he co‑founded the firm Killian and Nugent, which he led until 1983 when he established Killian Golf Design Group operating in Illinois and Southern California. Killian was elected to the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1971 and served as its president from 1986 to 1987.
He lectured widely on golf design and co‑authored “Planning and Building a Golf Course” for the National Golf Foundation. His design style favored smaller, yet artistically expressive bunkers and rolling greens.
