Golf Course Architect
Lester George is a Richmond, Virginia–based golf course architect and principal of George Golf Design, Inc. S.
S. Army Command and General Staff College (MS), then training under Golf Services International and at Harvard Design School (Golf Course Architecture, 1992).
He founded his own firm (originally Colonial Golf Design, now George Golf Design) in 1991 and has since specialized in both new courses and sensitive restoration of classic venues, including turning brownfields and constrained sites into award‑winning layouts. His work on Rock Manor Golf Course in Wilmington, Delaware—a challenging renovation requiring coordination with multiple agencies, flood‑attenuation engineering, and major infrastructure constraints—earned accolades from ASGCA and other design‑excellence awards.
He’s also notable for designing courses such as Kinloch Golf Club and Ballyhack in Virginia, blending bold terrain routing with visual drama and strategic play.
