Golf Course Architect
Mark Mahannah, Sr. (1906–1991) was a Fort Lauderdale–raised University of Florida alumnus who began his career on William S.
Flynn’s construction crew and as head greenkeeper at Miami Biltmore before transitioning into full‑time golf course architecture in the early 1950s. He became a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects in 1961 and was elevated to Fellow in 1976.
He retired in the late 1970s and passed away in 1991. Mahannah contributed significantly to reshaping South Florida golf, credited with an estimated 46 original designs and 13 major renovations, including notable work at Rio Pinar, Royal Palm, Lost Tree Club, Greynolds, Caloosa, and the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club in Miami around 1970.
