Golf Course Architect
Orrin Edward Smith was an American golf course architect active primarily from the 1920s through the 1950s. He began his career serving as a construction superintendent for Willie Park Jr.
and later became a protégé of renowned architect Donald Ross, supervising construction on Ross’s projects before launching his own practice around 1925. He became known for designing compact, strategic courses framed by narrow, tree-lined fairways and bold, rounded bunkers shaped with heavy earthmoving equipment.
In addition to new designs, he frequently remodeled Ross originals and mentored future architects like William F. Mitchell and Al Zikorus.
