Golf Course Architect
Ramón Espinosa (1932–2019) was a highly respected Spanish golf course architect and agronomical engineer who founded Espinosa Golf Design, Garden & Golf, and Ibergolf. With a doctorate in agronomy from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a Master’s in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin, he designed and oversaw construction of numerous notable courses in Spain, including Club Golf d’Aro (1990), La Toja, Mediterráneo Golf, Fontanals de Cerdanya, Golf Valdeluz, Alborán Golf, Barberán, Bonalba, Calatayud, and Serres de Pals.
Espinosa served as president of the European Society of Golf Course Architects (ESGA) from 1994 to 1998 and played a key role in founding the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA). His work was honored by the Real Federación Española de Golf with the Placa al Mérito en Golf in 2002, reflecting his prolific and influential career in Spanish golf architecture.
