Golf Course Architect
Thomas Winton began his career as a greenskeeper in Scotland before relocating to the United States around the early 20th century to pursue golf course design. Working initially on construction projects and later in a supervisory capacity for the Westchester County Parks Commission, he became active as an independent designer throughout the 1920s along the Eastern Seaboard.
His known works include the original layout of Corning Country Club in New York, as well as numerous other club and public courses in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Maryland. His style seems influenced by naturalist design principles, likely informed by early experience in Scotland and collaboration with figures like Willie Park Jr.
