Amarilla Golf is an 18-hole course on the southern coast of Tenerife in San Miguel de Abona. British architect Donald Steel, working through Cotton Pennink Steel & Partners, designed the course, which opened in 1989. Its routing uses the contrast between Tenerife's volcanic terrain, ravines and Atlantic shoreline.
The fifth is the course's most distinctive documented hole: a par 3 played across the ocean to a green positioned against the coast. Amarilla quickly entered professional tournament golf, hosting the second Tenerife Open on the PGA European Tour in 1990, one year after inauguration. The Canary Islands Golf Federation currently lists the course as 18 holes and par 71, although descriptive material on the same federation page retains older figures of par 72 and 6,077 metres.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. Designed by Donald Steel, the course originally opened in 1989. It is open to the public.
Amarilla was developed on Tenerife's southern coast and inaugurated in 1989, with Donald Steel responsible for the course architecture.
Steel used the site's volcanic landscape, ravines and direct relationship with the Atlantic coast. The fifth hole is a documented example, requiring a tee shot across the ocean to the green.
The course hosted the second Tenerife Open on the PGA European Tour in 1990.
Amarilla remains an 18-hole public-access course in San Miguel de Abona.
