Bangalore Golf Club is a historic private/member-oriented golf club in central Bengaluru, Karnataka. Established in 1876 by a group of British gentlemen, it began as a 12-hole course on land that had been used for military training. The club describes itself as the oldest golf course outside the British Isles.
In 2002 the site was comprehensively transformed into an 18-hole course, with golf architect Phil Ryan credited with the redesign. The current course is par 70 and measures 6,118 yards from the Blue tees and 5,278 yards from the Red tees. Official BGC material lists the Blue tees at a course rating of 68.3 and slope 120, Red men's tees at 63.9/112 and Red women's tees at 70.6/121.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 70, 5,594m (6,118 yards). Designed by Phil Ryan, the course originally opened in 1876. It is open to members and their guests. On-site facilities include Floodlit Driving Range, Practice Green, Practice Bunker, Short Game Practice Area, Restaurant, Locker Rooms, Driving Range, Pro Shop.
Bangalore Golf Club was established in 1876 by a group of British gentlemen. The original course contained 12 holes, and the land also served for many years as an Army training area. The club subsequently became an important part of the city's sporting history and participated in an early inter-club rivalry with Madras.
The modern layout is compact because the club occupies approximately 60 acres in central Bengaluru. The current course works between mature tree lines and two water bodies, with relatively tight corridors placing a premium on accuracy.
The most important modern change came in 2002, when the old course underwent a comprehensive transformation into an 18-hole layout. Phil Ryan of Pacific Coast Design is credited with the redesign. Accounts of the project note that existing trees were retained and recycled effluent water was incorporated into course irrigation.
BGC now operates an 18-hole par-70 course with approved course and slope ratings, a floodlit driving range and extensive practice and clubhouse facilities.
