Boat of Garten Golf and Tennis Club is an 18-hole, par-70 Highland course in the Cairngorms National Park. Golf at Boat of Garten dates from 1898, while James Braid is credited with the course design associated with the modern club; historical accounts record an expansion in 1931. The inland routing combines heathland and moorland characteristics with sandy, firm-running ground and areas of Caledonian pine.
Its setting differs markedly from Scotland's coastal links, despite some links-like playing characteristics. The club is also associated with tennis and maintains a clubhouse with food and beverage facilities. Boat of Garten's proximity to Loch Garten and its osprey population has led to the course being widely known as the Osprey Course.
The course is an 18-hole heathland golf course. Designed by James Braid, the course originally opened in 1898. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Putting Green, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, Bar, Tennis, Membership.
Golf has been played at Boat of Garten since 1898, making the club part of the late-Victorian expansion of Scottish golf beyond the traditional coastal centres.
James Braid's work used the naturally rolling Highland ground and existing vegetation rather than attempting to make the inland site resemble a conventional parkland course. Pine, heath and changes in elevation define much of the routing.
Historical accounts record the course being expanded in 1931, producing the 18-hole layout associated with the club today.
The club combines its par-70 golf course with tennis and clubhouse facilities in the Cairngorms National Park.
