About Bowmanville Golf and Country Club

Bowmanville Golf & Country Club is an 18-hole, par-72 public parkland course in Bowmanville, Ontario, east of Oshawa. The property was originally farmland; the club states that the front nine was constructed in early 1959, with the back nine added about twelve years later. Canadian golf architect C.

E. "Robbie" Robinson is credited with the course design by multiple golf-reference sources. The two nines have distinctly different characters: the club describes the front nine as relatively open, while the back nine runs through thick forest that places a greater premium on accuracy.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,282 yards, course rating 69.9 and slope rating 119. Designed by C. E. "Robbie" Robinson, the course originally opened in 1959. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Area, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Hire, Pull Cart Hire, Power Cart Hire, and 5 more.

Origins

The land that became Bowmanville Golf & Country Club began as farmland rather than an established golf property. The club's own history states that construction of the front nine began in early 1959. This first section occupied the more open portion of the site and established golf at the property while Bowmanville was still a much smaller community.

Independent course references attribute the design to Canadian architect C. E. "Robbie" Robinson, whose career included numerous courses throughout Ontario.

Rather than building eighteen holes at once, Bowmanville developed in stages, leaving the original nine as the club's complete course for approximately twelve years.

Did You Know?
The present 18-hole course was created in two stages: the front nine was built in early 1959, while the back nine was added roughly twelve years later.

Design Philosophy

The most distinctive feature of Bowman's layout is the contrast created by its phased development. The club describes the front nine as relatively open, while the later nine was cut through much thicker forest. That difference creates two separate strategic demands within the same round: the first nine provides more open playing corridors, while the back nine places considerably greater importance on direction and accuracy because mature woods closely frame the fairways.

Current rating data also allows golfers to play the course from Blue, White or Red tees, with official ratings maintained separately for men and women.

Development

Around twelve years after the original nine was completed, a second nine was constructed through the wooded portion of the property, turning Bowmanville into the 18-hole club that operates today. The club notes that more recent years have also brought continuing course improvements, although it does not publish a detailed chronology identifying individual redesign projects or a separate renovation architect. The fundamental distinction between the open original nine and forest-lined later nine remains part of the course's identity.

Today

Bowmanville Golf & Country Club remains a public-access golf facility at 3845 Middle Road North in Bowmanville. Tee times can be booked directly through the club's online system, and golfers can either walk or use power carts. The operation combines daily-fee play with seasonal membership and junior membership programs.

Practice and player services include a driving range, putting and short-game facilities, instruction, rental clubs, pull carts and a pro shop. The licensed, air-conditioned clubhouse includes a banquet hall capable of accommodating up to 183 people; the club currently states that hall rentals are associated with golf tournaments. Current 2026 pricing includes separate morning, afternoon and late-day walking rates along with single- and shared-cart packages.
