Brookside Golf Club is a 36-hole public municipal golf facility in Pasadena beside the Rose Bowl Stadium. Its two distinct William P. W.
O. Nay Course #2. The club describes Koiner as a par-72 layout and Nay as a shorter par-70 course, so the property should not be represented with a single facility-wide par, yardage or course rating.
The course is a 36-hole golf course. Designed by William P. Bell, the course originally opened in 1928. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Practice Bunker, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, Event Facilities.
Municipal golf at Brookside grew from Pasadena's efforts in the 1920s to provide a public course. Historical records document plans as early as 1921 and 1922, with the first nine holes opening on July 4, 1925. Pasadena subsequently committed funding to complete a larger city-owned golf facility, with William P.
Bell serving as architect.
Bell's work ultimately produced two courses within the Brookside property. W. O.
Nay Course #2, a par-70 layout.
Contemporary Pasadena newspaper records cited in the National Register documentation reported the Bell-designed links preparing to open in 1928, with the city-owned course publicly operating that year. Work on additional holes continued into the early 1930s as the municipal complex expanded.
The Southern California Golf Association identifies Brookside's two 1928 courses among William P. Bell's important works from that decade. The club itself identifies Brookside as the oldest golf course in Los Angeles County.
Brookside remains a 36-hole public golf complex immediately adjacent to the Rose Bowl. The two courses retain separate identities and scorecards, while tee times are sold through the club's public reservation system.
