Origins

Cape Girardeau Country Club was established in 1921. The club specifically identifies the first nine holes as the original 1921 design and says considerable care has been taken to preserve that original character.

Design Philosophy

The course uses the site's existing terrain, creeks and hills rather than relying on length alone. Tiered greens, bunkers and deliberately positioned landing areas provide much of the strategic challenge. The routing also has the unusual characteristic that neither the front nor back nine contains consecutive holes of the same par.

Development

The original nine-hole course was ultimately expanded to the present 18-hole layout. Club governance was formalised through the Cape Girardeau Country Club Trust, whose amended trust agreement dates to 1943.

Today

The club remains a private membership facility with an 18-hole, par-70 golf course, golf practice amenities and two principal dining venues.
