Castro Marim Golfe & Country Club in the eastern Algarve comprises three distinct nine-hole loops: Guadiana, Atlântico and Grouse. The original Guadiana and Atlântico courses were designed by Bristol-based architect Terry Murray and opened in 2001. The Grouse nine followed in 2008, bringing the property to 27 holes.
The older loops run through more tree-lined terrain, while Grouse occupies more open rolling ground with inland hill views. The club's own course description identifies elevated tees, dogleg fairways, bunkered elevated greens and canyon-like terrain as recurring characteristics of Guadiana and Atlântico. Because the facility is arranged as three interchangeable nine-hole loops rather than one fixed 18-hole routing, par and length depend on the combination being played.
The course is a 27-hole resort golf course. Designed by Terry Murray, the course originally opened in 2001. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Area, Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bar, Accommodation.
The development introduced golf to an eastern Algarve area that previously had little golf infrastructure. Terry Murray designed the Guadiana and Atlântico loops, which opened in 2001 as the original course.
The original loops make deliberate use of the site's natural undulations. Elevated tees, doglegs, canyon-like corridors and raised greens protected by bunkers are recurring design elements, while pine trees provide definition to many fairways.
A third nine, the Grouse, opened in 2008. It differs visually from the older loops through its more open rolling ground and broader inland views, expanding Castro Marim to a 27-hole facility.
Golf is organised around the Guadiana, Atlântico and Grouse nines, allowing different 18-hole combinations. The golf operation forms part of a larger resort development near Castro Marim.
