Origins

City Park Nine has been in continuous operation since 1940, making it one of the oldest golf facilities in Fort Collins. The course was built by the Fort Collins Golf Association on land next to City Park and Grandview Cemetery, an established public green space on the city's west side. Placing the course beside the existing park meant the young layout inherited decades-old shade trees rather than starting from open ground, a head start that still shapes how it plays today.

Unlike the 18-hole municipal courses Fort Collins built later as the city grew, City Park Nine was designed from the outset as a compact nine-hole track, reflecting the smaller scale of municipal golf in that era.

Did You Know?
Although it has only nine holes, City Park Nine sells both 9-hole and 18-hole rates — golfers wanting a full round simply play the same nine holes twice, from a different mix of tees and pins.

Design Philosophy

The routing plays to a par of 36 over roughly 3,325 yards from the back markers, but the yardage understates the challenge. Decades of tree growth have narrowed the corridors on several holes, and the small, older-style greens leave little margin for error on approach shots. The course rewards accuracy and course management over length, a trait more common on early-20th-century municipal designs than on modern layouts built around wider, longer fairways.

Recognition

City Park Nine has repeatedly been named Colorado's best nine-hole golf course in rankings from state golf publications, a reputation built on mature conditioning and old-school design at an accessible municipal price. That standing has helped keep it one of the busier short-course options in Fort Collins, alongside the city's two 18-hole municipal courses, Collindale and SouthRidge.

Today

The course still operates as a city-run facility, with a pro shop and snack bar at the clubhouse, a driving range, a putting green, and club and cart rentals. Its short format and central location make it a regular stop for quick rounds, beginning golfers, and family play, with tee times bookable a few days in advance through the city's golf program.
