About Claremont Park Golf Course

Claremont Park Golf Course is a private nine-hole course within the Claremont Park Estate near the centre of Esher, Surrey. The club's own website says the course has been established for more than 60 years and consists of eight par-three holes and one par four. Current independent scorecard sources list the nine-hole layout at par 28 and 1,445 yards from the White tees, with the par-four fifth hole measuring 245 yards.

The remaining holes range from 109 to 183 yards. Some directories show par 56 and 2,890 yards, which is the equivalent of playing the nine-hole circuit twice rather than evidence of a separate 18-hole layout. Access is restricted: the club states that green fees are available only to guests playing with a member, while prospective members can contact the club to arrange a nine-hole introduction.

The course is a 9-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 28, 1,321m (1,445 yards). It is open to members and their guests. On-site facilities include Putting green.

Origins

The surviving public record gives only a broad date for the course's beginnings. Claremont Park Golf Course states that it has been established for more than 60 years, placing its creation no later than the mid-1960s, but neither the club nor the independent sources located during this research provide a defensible exact opening year. No reliable attribution to an original golf-course architect was found.

The course forms part of the private Claremont Park residential estate at Esher and is also referred to in some local and mapping sources as Clare Hill Golf Course or Clare Hill Golf Club.

Ownership of homes within the Claremont Park Estate has been advertised as including shared ownership of the golf course and unrestricted resident access.

Development

The course has remained a compact nine-hole layout rather than developing into a conventional 18-hole facility. Its current arrangement is eight par threes and one par four. Modern scorecard databases consistently reproduce a White-tee circuit of 1,445 yards and par 28.

References elsewhere to 2,890 yards and par 56 appear to represent two circuits of the same nine holes. Elmbridge Borough Council's Local Green Space study identifies the site as Clare Hill Golf Club, covering about 4.92 hectares and surrounded by the low-density housing of Claremont Park. The council study notes the mature planting and the unusual role of a golf course forming a substantial open-space element within a residential area.

Today

Claremont Park Golf Course continues to operate as a private, member-oriented course. The official club website states that green fees are available only to guests playing with a member and invites prospective members to contact the club to arrange a nine-hole introductory game. Property descriptions for homes on the estate provide additional context for the unusual relationship between the course and surrounding residences: Savills has described estate residents as having shared ownership of the course and unrestricted access.

The layout remains nine holes, with the fifth as its sole par four. No current published green-fee amount, formal course rating or slope rating was found.
