Cocotal Golf & Country Club in the Punta Cana area is a 27-hole complex made up of three nine-hole courses named Hibiscus, Bougainvillea and Benjamina. Spanish golfer and architect José 'Pepe' Gancedo designed the layouts on land formerly used as a coconut plantation, and the courses opened in 2000. Gancedo used the existing terrain along with lakes, trees, bunkers and mounding to define the routing.
Because Cocotal consists of three nines, different 18-hole combinations can be played and aggregate statistics should be attached to the relevant combination rather than treated as a universal course scorecard. The property forms part of the Bávaro/Punta Cana resort-golf market and offers multiple tee positions across the loops.
The course is a 27-hole resort golf course. Designed by José "Pepe" Gancedo, the course originally opened in 2000. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Driving range, Putting green, Pro shop.
The golf complex was developed on the terrain of an old coconut plantation in the Bávaro/Punta Cana area.
José Gancedo used the property's existing terrain and vegetation together with lakes, bunkers, mounds and strategically retained trees. Three separate nine-hole loops allow different combinations for an 18-hole round.
Hibiscus, Bougainvillea and Benjamina opened in 2000 as the property's 27-hole golf offering.
Cocotal continues to operate as a 27-hole resort-oriented golf complex.
