Origins

Local interest in golf dated to 1893, but Crewe Golf Club was formally created in January 1911 with 53 men and 16 women. A nine-hole course was established quickly on land leased from the Marquess of Crewe.

The club's original landlord, the Marquess of Crewe, was one of its founding members.

Design Philosophy

The club credits James Braid with using the natural features of the Cheshire site. The present course combines rolling ground, mature trees, ponds and bunkered greens.

Development

The first clubhouse was built in 1926. Further land allowed expansion to 18 holes in 1949, and members helped finance the purchase of that land in 1965.

Recognition

Crewe participates in the network of James Braid-designed clubs that offer reciprocal green-fee arrangements.

Today

The club remains a member organisation but actively welcomes visitors and societies.
