Origins

East Point Golf Club traces its history to about 1884, when golf was played near Visakhapatnam's coast as an extension of the Waltair Club. The club later became independent. In 1964 it left the original coastal site and obtained a 99-year lease over 100 acres at Mudasarlova.

Design Philosophy

The present routing uses rolling and rocky terrain, mature trees, marshland and natural water features. The club's history credits Sripada Rao with the architecture of the 18-hole layout developed in the 1970s.

Development

A nine-hole course was constructed at Mudasarlova in 1964. By 1974 the full 100 acres had been developed into 18 holes. A comprehensive renovation to international championship standards began in 2017, and the rebuilt course was inaugurated on 20 February 2021.

Recognition

The renovation received the Best Renovated Golf Course award at the 2022 GIA Summit, and the course subsequently entered the PGTI professional schedule.

Today

EPGC operates an 18-hole championship course with extensive practice, coaching, hospitality and accommodation facilities and an active junior-development programme.
