Origins

The course was created in 1901 in the dunes beside Fanø's international seaside resort, giving hotel and spa guests a golf facility during their stay.

Did You Know?
Large parts of the present course preserve elements of the layout created more than a century ago.

Design Philosophy

The course follows the natural dune landscape beside the North Sea, with firm ground and wind forming fundamental parts of play rather than extensive artificial shaping.

Development

The original nine-hole course was expanded to 18 holes in 1930. Despite wartime disruption to the resort and loss of historical archives, much of the early golf landscape survived.

Recognition

The club regards Fanø as Denmark's oldest course and its only authentic links; its preserved early routing also gives it significance within mainland European golf history.

Today

Fanø Vesterhavsbads Golfklub maintains the links within protected dunes and welcomes visiting golfers throughout the season.
