Situated at Feddinch Mains just southwest of St Andrews, Feddinch is one of the most anticipated golf developments in Scotland. The site has been the focus of numerous proposals for more than twenty years, with several previous plans failing to progress before a new masterplan received planning approval in 2025. The approved development aims to create a world-class private golf destination featuring an 18-hole championship course, a par-three course, extensive practice facilities, a clubhouse, luxury hotel and spa, guest cottages and supporting amenities.
Although the course is not yet operational, its location immediately adjacent to St Andrews has generated considerable interest within the golfing world. The project represents the first new golf course development in the area since the opening of the Castle Course in 2008 and is intended to complement the region’s reputation as the Home of Golf. Over the years, several prominent developers and architects have been associated with the site as plans evolved through multiple ownership changes and planning processes.
Feddinch Mains, just southwest of St Andrews, has been eyed for a major golf development for more than two decades, with a succession of proposals put forward and shelved as ownership and planning circumstances changed. After years without a plan able to progress, a revised masterplan for the site was approved in 2025, clearing the way for a project combining an 18-hole championship course, a shorter par-three course, practice facilities and accommodation.
The current phase of the project is run by developer A&M Golf under Fife Council planning reference 24/01711/FULL. Site progress updates posted for the development show concrete work underway on cottage buildings (recorded pours for Cottages A, B and C in November 2024), indicating the project has moved from planning approval into active construction rather than remaining a paper masterplan.
Coverage of the site has centered on its rarity: no new golf course had been built in the immediate St Andrews area since the Castle Course opened in 2008, making Feddinch one of the most closely watched proposed developments in Scottish golf.
The course is not yet open for play. Construction of accommodation buildings is underway on site, with the golf course itself still to follow as the approved masterplan is built out.
