About Forest of Arden Country Club

Forest of Arden Country Club is a golf resort at Meriden in Warwickshire with two separate 18-hole courses. The championship Arden Course is a par-72 parkland layout designed by Donald Steel and extending to 7,213 yards from its longest tees. The second layout, the Aylesford Course, is a shorter par-69 course and should not be confused with the Arden scorecard.

Both were laid out within the old Packington Estate landscape. The Arden became a prominent professional tournament venue, particularly during the 1990s, staging the English Open and British Masters. Its routing uses mature woodland, open parkland and water, particularly around the closing portion of the course.

The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,213 yards. Designed by Donald Steel, the course originally opened in 1970. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Practice Area, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Hire, Restaurant, Bar, and 1 more.

Origins

The golf complex was developed on the Packington Estate near Meriden, using an established deer-park landscape between Birmingham and Coventry. Donald Steel designed the golf courses, with the Arden emerging as the longer championship layout.

Design Philosophy

Steel routed the Arden through a mixture of mature woodland and more open parkland. Water becomes an important component of the championship layout, while established trees inherited from the estate define many corridors.

Development

The Arden has been upgraded over time while retaining its parkland identity. Later architectural work has been associated with Tom MacKenzie, Martin Ebert and European Golf Design, although Donald Steel remains the principal design credit.

Recognition

The Arden's profile grew substantially through professional tournament golf. It became a regular venue for the English Open and subsequently the British Masters, particularly during the 1990s.

Today

Forest of Arden remains a two-course resort. The Arden is the 7,213-yard championship course, while the separate Aylesford provides a shorter 18-hole option.
