Fortrose & Rosemarkie Golf Club is an 18-hole links on the Chanonry Peninsula in the Scottish Highlands. Documentary evidence confirms golf in the area by the early eighteenth century, while the club recognises 1793 as its recorded foundation and describes itself as the 15th oldest recorded golf club in the world. The course expanded to 18 holes in 1924.
Five-time Open champion James Braid was invited to advise on the layout in 1932, and his redesign, developed further as additional land became available, formed the basis of the course used today. For 2026, the men's Black tees are par 71 with a 69.9 course rating and 121 slope; White is 69.0/119, Yellow 68.1/118 and Red 67.0/115. Visitors are accepted, with published 2026 adult green fees of £110 on weekdays and £125 at weekends.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 71, 6,085 yards, course rating 69.9 and slope rating 121. Designed by James Braid, the course originally opened in 1793. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Practice Area, Driving Range, Pro Shop, Golf Cart Rental, Trolley Hire, Club Rental, Caddies, Restaurant, and 5 more.
Golf at Chanonry predates the formal club by many decades. The club's historical research cites documentary evidence from 1702 and a 1793 Statistical Account confirming that golf had already become established in the area. The club now uses 1793 as its recorded date and ranks itself as the 15th oldest recorded golf club in the world.
The course reached 18 holes in 1924. In 1932 James Braid was asked to advise on a new layout, and after additional land at Chanonry Point became available he returned to refine the course. A newspaper report in June 1935 described the newly laid-out 18 holes.
The course was later requisitioned during the Second World War and required restoration after military use.
The club has received repeated Scottish golf-tourism recognition, including category wins in 2017, 2018 and 2024, and hosted the World Hickory Open Championship in October 2024.
Fortrose & Rosemarkie remains a visitor-accessible historic links with member competitions, open events, equipment hire, practice facilities and a clubhouse overlooking the Moray Firth.
