The golf course historically known as Four Hills Country Club is now operated as The Canyon Club at Four Hills in Albuquerque, New Mexico. D. 'Bill' Brannin, who began pursuing the idea in the mid-1950s and identified the former Speakman Ranch as a possible site.
Bob Baldock was hired to design an 18-hole course, using the foothill terrain to create narrow rolling fairways and relatively small, bunkered greens. Development faced a fundamental challenge when an initial deep well failed to locate water; a subsequent drilling effort ultimately reached a substantial water source and allowed the project to proceed. Because the database entry uses the historic Four Hills name and legacy website, care should be taken not to merge current Canyon Club information with unrelated facilities carrying similar names.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. The course was designed by Bob Baldock. It is a private members' club.
W.D. 'Bill' Brannin began pursuing the concept of Four Hills Country Club in the 1950s after riding horses through the area. He targeted the Speakman Ranch site and worked with Marshall Wylie and Harry Driver to establish the financial backing for the project.
Bob Baldock used the natural foothill terrain to create narrow, rolling fairways and small greens protected by bunkering rather than flattening the property into a more uniform layout.
The club subsequently changed identity and today operates as The Canyon Club at Four Hills.
The historic Four Hills golf property remains in operation under The Canyon Club at Four Hills name in Albuquerque.
