Frederic developed as a community golf course supported by local stockholders and substantial volunteer effort.
Stockholders voted in 1998 to add another nine holes. Construction was complicated by heavy rain repeatedly washing away newly planted grass, but the full 18-hole course opened in July 2000. In November 2015 Tim and Mike Vasatka purchased the property.
Frederic remains privately owned but open to public play, memberships, outings and tournaments.
