Genesee Valley Golf Course North is an 18-hole municipal course at 1000 East River Road in Rochester, New York. Monroe County identifies the North Course as the 'Old Course' and dates its construction to 1899, placing it among the earliest public golf courses in the United States. The North Course dates to 1899 and is known locally as Genesee Valley's Old Course. Monroe County and the PGA of America identify it as one of the earliest public golf courses in the United States, giving the Rochester facility an unusually long municipal-golf history.
A second 18-hole course was later added at Genesee Valley, creating the present 36-hole facility. The North and South courses remain distinct, with this record representing only the older North routing.
The North Course became closely associated with Calvin Peete, who used Genesee Valley as his home course before becoming one of the most successful African-American golfers of his era. Peete won 12 PGA Tour events and represented the United States in the 1983 and 1985 Ryder Cups.
Monroe County Parks operates Genesee Valley as a public municipal complex. The North Course is supported by an all-grass range, large putting green and chipping/pitching green, and it continues to be priced as one of the county's public-access golf facilities.
