Glenhurst Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-70 public course in Redford, Michigan, opened on May 28, 1932. The layout occupies land that was part of an 80-acre farm owned by Thomas Paulger beginning in 1854; the course was developed by three of Paulger's granddaughters and their husbands, Walter Nacker, Clayton Nacker, and Dewey Hawthorne. Redford Township purchased the course in 1989 with assistance from a state DNR trust fund, and it continues to be operated by the third generation of the Hawthorne family.
The layout has been redesigned three times over its history, with 22 acres added beyond the original property. From the Black tees it plays to 5,655 yards (course rating 67.3, slope 120); White tees measure 5,212 yards (65.4/114) and Green tees 4,916 yards (63.9/111). A notable feature is an oak tree at the convergence of four holes, marked with a plaque noting it has stood since the American Revolution.
The course is an 18-hole golf course. It plays to par 70, 4,766m (5,212 yards), course rating 65.4 and slope rating 114. Designed by George McLean, the course originally opened in 1932. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Restaurant, Banquet/Event Facility.
The land Glenhurst occupies was part of an 80-acre farm owned by Thomas Paulger starting in 1854. Three of Paulger's granddaughters and their husbands — Walter Nacker, Clayton Nacker, and Dewey Hawthorne — developed the property into a golf course, which opened to the public on May 28, 1932.
The course has been redesigned three times since opening, with 22 acres added to the original farm property. Redford Township acquired Glenhurst in 1989, with financial assistance from a state DNR trust fund.
Glenhurst remains township-owned and is still managed day-to-day by the third generation of the Hawthorne family, who trace their involvement back to the course's 1932 opening. It offers both 9-hole and 18-hole play and is promoted by the club as one of Michigan's busiest public courses.
