About Golfbaan Ameland

Golfbaan Ameland is a public golf facility at Hollum on the Dutch island of Ameland in Friesland. It consists of two distinct nine-hole layouts. The Duunbaan is a par-36 full-length course designed by Joan Dudok van Heel in 1995, while the separate Wadbaan is a nine-hole par-3 course open to beginners as well as experienced golfers.

The Duunbaan requires course permission or handicap 54; the Wadbaan is open without that requirement. Current 2026 Duunbaan green fees are €48.50 for nine holes and €73.50 for 18 holes. A Wadbaan day ticket, including a golf set, costs €30 for adults and €15 for children up to age 12.

The course is an 18-hole links golf course. Designed by Joan Dudok van Heel, the course originally opened in 1995. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Golf Shop, Club Rental, Trolley Rental, Golf Cart Rental, Restaurant, and 2 more.

Origins

The project began in 1995 from a plan to establish golf on Ameland. Joan Dudok van Heel designed the main nine-hole course on land combining former agricultural ground with coastal and dune-edge terrain near Hollum.

Did You Know?
Golfbaan Ameland describes itself as the first 'overseas' golf course in the Netherlands.

Design Philosophy

Although the course is not technically built directly on classic linksland, Dudok van Heel created a lightly rolling, links-like routing influenced by the Old Course at St Andrews. Wind and open coastal vegetation play an important role in its character.

Development

The full-length Duunbaan was later complemented by the separate nine-hole Wadbaan par-3 course, broadening access for beginners and short-game practice.

Recognition

GOLF.NL has repeatedly rated the course highly among Dutch nine-hole venues and highlighted its links-like character and island setting.

Today

Golfbaan Ameland operates both nine-hole layouts, practice facilities and Clubhouse De Bunker, with public green-fee play and online tee-time booking.
