Golspie Golf Club is an 18-hole course on Scotland's north-east coast in Sutherland. The club was founded in 1889, although organised golf in the area predates it: the club's history records a Sutherland Golfing Society event in 1878. Golspie began as nine holes and was expanded to 18 in 1905, when the enlarged course was opened by the Duchess of Sutherland.
James Braid was invited to improve the course in 1925, with his work completed by 1926, so he is more accurately recorded as a renovator than as the original designer. The present course measures 6,021 yards from the white tees and plays to par 70, with a published rating of 68.9 and slope of 121. The routing combines coastal, heathland and more sheltered inland characteristics.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. It plays to par 70, 6,021 yards, course rating 68.9 and slope rating 121. Designed by James Braid, the course originally opened in 1889. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Pro Shop, Putting Green, Practice Nets, Restaurant, Bar.
The Sutherland Golfing Society was active locally before Golspie Golf Club's formal establishment in 1889. Contemporary descriptions from the 1890s record a nine-hole course.
Golspie expanded to 18 holes in 1905, with the Duchess of Sutherland opening the enlarged course. James Braid was invited in 1925 to make improvements, completed by 1926. The lower course was flooded by the North Sea in 2012 and subsequently repaired.
The present layout measures 6,021 yards and par 70 and continues to welcome visiting golfers.
