C. Brown. In 1911 the course was expanded to 18 holes to a design by Willie Park of Musselburgh.
James Braid was then invited to advise on improvements in 1921, and the club states that his recommended changes were incorporated and remain part of the course. This makes the architecture a three-stage history rather than a simple joint Park-Braid original design. The course combines flatter parkland, a more wooded and moderately hilly middle section and undulating parkland later in the round.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by A.C. Brown and Willie Park, the course originally opened in 1890. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Practice Areas, Practice Nets, Golf Shop, Clubhouse, Dining.
The club was formed in 1890. Golf professional A.C. Brown laid out the first nine-hole course, establishing the foundation of the present property.
Willie Park expanded Grantown to 18 holes in 1911. James Braid was brought in a decade later, in 1921, to recommend improvements. The club says those changes were incorporated and remain part of the course.
The clubhouse also evolved with the club, including a major extension and refurbishment completed in 1999.
Grantown's historical identity is closely associated with Bobby Cruickshank, who went from the club to a successful career in the United States and was the USPGA's leading money winner in 1927.
Grantown operates an 18-hole visitor-accessible course within the Cairngorms, with practice facilities, a golf shop and clubhouse.
