Origins

Haymaker was developed by the City of Steamboat Springs as a public golf facility on approximately 233 acres of former ranch land in the Yampa Valley. Keith Foster was selected to design the course.

Design Philosophy

Foster's brief was to produce a championship-calibre layout while retaining the site's pastoral character. Native grasses, wetlands and broad valley views were incorporated into the course rather than replaced by residential development.

Development

The municipal facility developed extensive practice amenities alongside the 18-hole course and later added year-round simulator golf.

Recognition

Haymaker participates in Audubon International's Signature Program, a designation tied to environmental planning and management.

Today

Haymaker remains a city-owned public course with seven published tee/combo configurations ranging from 7,308 to 5,059 yards, plus practice, instruction, simulator and food-service facilities.
