Heron Point by Pete Dye is an 18-hole, par-72 resort course at The Sea Pines Resort on Hilton Head Island. The current course resulted from Pete Dye's extensive reconstruction of the resort's former Sea Marsh layout, completed and introduced as Heron Point in 2007. Sea Pines publishes a length of 7,035 yards, a 73.3 course rating and slope of 134 for its principal listed configuration.
Dye reshaped the old course with pronounced mounding, swales, angled fairways, bunkering and water hazards, creating the risk-reward decisions associated with his later work. The course is one of three distinct 18-hole layouts at Sea Pines and must not be confused with Harbour Town Golf Links or Atlantic Dunes. Visitors can book tee times through the resort.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,035 yards, course rating 73.3 and slope rating 134. Designed by Pete Dye, the course originally opened in 2007. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Villa, Café, Function Room, Room, Suite, Driving range, Pro shop, Golf lessons, and 6 more.
Heron Point occupies the site of Sea Pines' former Sea Marsh course. Rather than simply renovating isolated features, Pete Dye and his team undertook a major reconstruction of the existing layout.
Dye used shifting fairway angles, mounds, swales, water and strategically positioned hazards to create repeated decisions from the tee and on approach. The course's character is distinctly different from Sea Pines' Harbour Town and Atlantic Dunes layouts.
The reconstruction was completed in the 2000s and the course emerged as Heron Point, with 2007 generally treated as the opening year of the current layout.
Heron Point is one of three 18-hole courses at The Sea Pines Resort and accepts public resort tee-time bookings.
