About Higashi-Chiba Country Club - West Course

Higashi-Chiba Country Club's West Course is an 18-hole, par-72 layout in Togane, Chiba Prefecture, forming half of a 36-hole facility alongside the East Course. The club opened on October 1, 1977 and both courses are credited to Japanese course designer Toshio Suzuki. Accordia Golf classifies the property as a woodland and gently hilly course with two bentgrass greens per hole.

On the West Course, the Black tees measure 6,701 yards when the Left green is in use, with a course rating of 72.2; the alternate Right-green configuration measures 6,752 yards and is rated 72.4. The West is shorter than the neighbouring East Course and runs through mature woodland with relatively moderate elevation changes. Four published tee positions provide multiple playing lengths, while the separate greens alter both individual-hole and total yardages.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,701 yards. Designed by Toshio Suzuki, the course originally opened in 1977. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Approach Practice Area, Practice Bunker, Golf Cart Hire, Club Hire, Golf Shoe Hire, Restaurant, Bath Facilities, and 5 more.

Origins

Higashi-Chiba Country Club dates to October 1, 1977 in Togane, Chiba Prefecture. The club developed as a substantial 36-hole facility with separate East and West courses, both credited to Toshio Suzuki. Its setting uses the wooded landscape of the Chiba interior rather than a coastal or mountain site, and the two courses were designed to provide distinct playing characteristics within the same property.

Did You Know?
The West Course has two separate bentgrass greens on every hole, producing different total yardages and course ratings depending on which set is in use.

Design Philosophy

The West Course is the shorter and generally less severe of Higashi-Chiba's two layouts. Accordia Golf describes the overall property as woodland and gently hilly, while Japanese golf sources consistently distinguish the West from the longer East Course. The current West layout uses two bentgrass greens per hole, which changes approach angles and playing lengths according to the green in service.

From the Black tees it measures 6,701 yards to the Left greens and 6,752 yards to the Right greens. Its par distribution is conventional at 36 on each nine, but numerous bunkers and the tree-defined corridors place a premium on positioning rather than relying solely on length.

Development

The club has remained a two-course, 36-hole property since its early history, but its corporate operation has changed. After financial restructuring in the late 2000s, the property came under golf-management groups associated with Orix. The wider Orix golf operation was transferred in 2019 and subsequently operated under the Next Golf Management name.

The club is now part of Accordia Golf, which presents Higashi-Chiba within its GRAND portfolio. Current facilities and operating systems have been updated around GPS-equipped carts, online reservations, automated payment equipment and year-round night-golf operations using a combination of holes from the East and West courses.

Today

Higashi-Chiba Country Club is currently operated by Accordia Golf and remains open for public reservations alongside its membership structure. Golfers may play either self-guided rounds or request caddie service. The practice complex includes an 18-bay, 250-yard driving range plus approach and bunker areas.

The clubhouse provides a restaurant, locker rooms, baths and showers, rental clubs and shoes, and competition rooms accommodating large groups. The club also operates a shuttle bus and sits approximately two kilometres from the Togane interchange.
