The Highland Course at The Lodge at Primland is an 18-hole, par-72 mountain course in Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains. Donald Steel designed the course, which opened in 2006. Primland's current official specifications list 7,051 yards, a course rating of 75.1 and slope of 153.
The course follows the property's high ridges and steep natural terrain rather than occupying a broad, level resort site. Four principal scorecard tee sets range from approximately 5,166 to 7,053 yards, with additional combination tees available. The Highland Course is open to the general public as well as members and resort guests.
The course is an 18-hole mountain golf course. It plays to par 72, 7,051 yards, course rating 75.1 and slope rating 153. Designed by Donald Steel, the course originally opened in 2006. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Putting green, Practice bunker, Pro shop, Golf lessons, Club fitting, Club rental, Golf carts, and 5 more.
Primland's Highland Course was conceived as part of the large mountain retreat developed on the Primland property. Donald Steel was commissioned to route the course through the site's high Blue Ridge terrain, and it opened in 2006.
Steel worked with the existing mountain landforms rather than substantially flattening the site. The routing follows ridges and elevation changes and provides multiple tee positions to make the severe terrain playable across a broad range of abilities.
Primland subsequently developed into a broader resort and later joined Auberge Resorts Collection. Golf remained one of the property's central recreational elements.
The Highland Course has received repeated national and state recognition, including Golf Digest's ranking as Virginia's leading public course and placement among America's 100 Greatest Public Courses.
The Highland Course is open to resort guests, members and the general public and operates seasonally with practice, teaching, dining and lodging facilities.
