Hoebridge Golf Centre's Main Course is an 18-hole parkland layout in Old Woking, Surrey, designed by John Jacobs and opened in 1982. The official scorecard lists the White tees at 6,544 yards, par 72, with a course rating of 71.7 and slope of 129. Yellow tees measure 6,343 yards at par 72, while the Red course measures 5,850 yards at par 73.
The front nine moves through rolling parkland before the routing becomes more demanding on the back nine. Hoebridge's own hole guide highlights the elevated par-3 sixth, the downhill tee shot at the eighth, the blind drive and bunker-protected green at the 11th, and the risk-reward par-5 13th. The Main Course is one of three layouts at the centre, alongside the nine-hole Shey Copse and an 18-hole par-3 Short Course.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 72, 6,544 yards, course rating 71.7 and slope rating 129. Designed by John Jacobs, the course originally opened in 1982. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, TrackMan Driving Range, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Club Fitting, Junior Golf Academy, Golf Buggy Hire, Pull Trolley Hire, and 10 more.
Hoebridge was created during the early expansion of purpose-built public and commercial golf centres in Britain. Companies House records show that the company now called Burhill Golf and Leisure Limited was incorporated in 1980 and renamed Hoebridge Golf Centre Limited at the end of 1981. Contemporary trade coverage provides a useful marker for the actual launch: the August 1982 edition of Greenkeeper reported on the opening of the new Hoebridge Golf Centre at Old Woking and the work of head greenkeeper Trevor Pipe.
The Main Course was designed by John Jacobs, the former Ryder Cup captain and teaching professional whose later career included a substantial portfolio of course-design work. The separate member-run Hoebridge Golf Club was established in 1984 and has since used the centre's facilities.
The present official description separates the Main Course into two broad characters. The front nine moves through parkland with a mixture of demanding and more approachable holes, while the back nine provides the stronger test. Jacobs used the changing Surrey terrain repeatedly: the sixth is a par 3 from an elevated tee; the eighth also starts above the fairway, bringing trees and bunkers into the driving decision; the 11th begins with a blind tee shot before descending to a bunker-protected green; and the par-5 13th uses out of bounds, a large bunker, a plateaued landing area and an elevated green to create a clear risk-reward choice.
The current official scorecard measures 6,544 yards from the White tees.
Hoebridge developed beyond a single 18-hole course into a broader pay-and-play golf centre. It now contains the Main Course, the nine-hole Shey Copse and an 18-hole par-3 Short Course, giving the venue 45 golf holes in total. Its practice and leisure operation has also expanded to include a TrackMan-equipped driving range, golf instruction and fitting, a golf shop, health club, food and beverage facilities, function spaces and adventure golf.
The corporate entity evolved as well: Hoebridge Golf Centre Limited became Burhill Golf Centres Limited in 1990 and later Burhill Golf and Leisure Limited, whose BGL Golf division continues to operate Hoebridge.
Hoebridge holds GEO Certified status, an independently recognised sustainability certification for golf facilities covering areas including nature, resource use, climate action and community engagement. The certification is now highlighted by the centre as part of its operational and environmental programme.
Hoebridge remains a public-access golf centre under BGL Golf. Visitors can book all three courses seven days a week, while a separate membership programme provides competition access and a longer advance-booking window. The Main Course is the centre's full-length layout, with White and Yellow men's tees rated at par 72 and a Red women's course at par 73.
Current supporting facilities include the TrackMan driving range, golf shop, lessons and custom fitting, junior golf, rental clubs, buggies and trolleys, clubhouse food and drink, changing facilities, a health club and electric-vehicle charging.
