About Kils GK

Kils Golfklubb is an 18-hole, par-72 course at Skärningsberg outside Kil in Värmland. The club was formed on 24 November 1984 after local golfers began organising an unofficial Kil championship and established a working group to create a golf association and find land for a course. Lars Andreasson designed the first nine holes, which correspond to today's holes 10-18.

Play began in May 1987, with juniors striking the first competition shots, and the nine-hole course was officially inaugurated that year. Heavy demand quickly prompted an expansion. Construction of another nine began in autumn 1988, with club member Urban Blom serving as architect and constructor for what are now holes 1-9.

The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. Designed by Urban Blom and Lars Andreasson, the course originally opened in 1987. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Putting Green, Pro Shop, Restaurant, Golf Cart Rental.

Origins

Golfers from Kil who belonged to neighbouring clubs began organising an unofficial local championship in the early 1980s. After the 1983 event at Sunne, Olle Stridsberg, Lars Fernqvist, Stefan Jakobsson, Jörgen Angbo and Tage Nordkvist formed a working group to establish a golf association and find suitable land. Kils Golfklubb was formally founded on 24 November 1984 and entered the Swedish Golf Federation as club number 183.

Lars Andreasson designed the initial nine holes, and play began in May 1987.

Design Philosophy

The course developed in two distinct stages rather than from a single 18-hole master plan. Andreasson's original nine are today's holes 10-18. Demand soon exceeded the capacity of that layout, and club member Urban Blom designed and constructed the second nine, now holes 1-9.

Development

, demonstrating the need for another nine holes. Construction began in autumn 1988. For the 1990 season the club had a complete 18-hole course, a new clubhouse and automatic irrigation for greens and fairways.

The 18-hole course received its formal inauguration in 1991, with Sven Tumba as guest of honour.

Recognition

The club developed a nationally noticed junior programme during the late 1980s and 1990s. Golfjournalisterna named Kils GK Årets Golfklubb 1995, with the award presented at the Swedish Golf Federation meeting in 1996. Players developed through the club included European Tour winner Christian Nilsson.

Today

Kils Golfklubb operates the 18-hole course at Skärningsberg with visitor golf, a driving range, putting facilities, shop/reception, golf carts and a separate golf restaurant.
