King's Golf Club in Inverness is an 18-hole, par-70 course designed by Scottish golf architect Stuart Rennie and officially opened on 30 August 2019. The club emerged from the former Torvean Golf Club after construction connected with the Inverness West Link required redevelopment of the old site. Rennie's new course incorporates some land previously used by Torvean while providing a modern championship layout, clubhouse, driving range and practice area.
Published tee information lists the Gold course at 6,634 yards with a men's course rating of 72.0 and slope of 131. Other published configurations include Purple at 6,185 yards, Navy Blue at 5,584 yards and White at 4,945 yards. The course occupies land west of central Inverness near Craig Phadraig, an archaeologically significant hill associated with the Pictish king Bridei mac Maelchon.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 70, 6,634 yards, course rating 72 and slope rating 131. Designed by Stuart Rennie, the course originally opened in 2019. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Area, Pro Shop, Restaurant, Bar, Clubhouse, Membership.
King's Golf Club was established after the demise of Torvean Golf Club, whose history dated to around 1962. Expansion of Inverness and construction associated with the Inverness West Link required the old Torvean course to close. A replacement 18-hole course and clubhouse were consequently developed, with parts of the former golfing land incorporated into the new layout.
Stuart Rennie designed the replacement as an 18-hole championship course rather than simply reproducing Torvean. The development included a driving range and practice area and retained a physical connection with the old club by using some former Torvean land.
The new club was established in 2019. Its name reflects the history of nearby Craig Phadraig, where archaeological evidence is associated with an Iron Age/Pictish stronghold and King Bridei mac Maelchon. King's was officially opened on 30 August 2019, with former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher OBE driving the ceremonial first ball down ground that had formed Torvean's former 18th fairway.
The club states that during its first year the course was ranked 74th in Scotland and 12th in the North of Scotland by Top 100 Golf Courses.
King's operates from its purpose-built clubhouse in Inverness with an 18-hole course, practice facilities, bar and restaurant and golf and social memberships.
