Lancaster Golf Club's present course surrounds Ashton Hall south of Lancaster. James Braid designed the layout in 1932 after the club secured a lease over Ashton Hall and its adjoining deer park, and the course opened in spring 1933. The White course measures 6,512 yards and plays to par 71; published WHS data gives those tees a 71.8 course rating and 125 slope.
Yellow tees measure 6,269 yards, while the principal women's course measures 5,791 yards. Braid used the existing parkland landscape to create two loops of nine, with the course changing character after the eleventh hole as views open towards Morecambe Bay. Lancaster has hosted the Lancashire County Championship on multiple occasions.
The course is an 18-hole parkland golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,954m (6,512 yards), course rating 71.8 and slope rating 125. Designed by James Braid, the course originally opened in 1933. It is semi-private, welcoming both members and visitors. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Practice Area, Golf Simulator, Pro Shop, Golf Lessons, Restaurant, Bar, Accommodation, and 2 more.
Lancaster Golf Club moved toward its present home after W. Pye and Sons purchased Ashton Hall and the adjoining deer park in May 1931. A leasing agreement enabled the club to commission a new course on the estate.
James Braid designed the course in 1932 around the existing parkland. The routing uses two loops of nine and preserves the character of the former deer park while exploiting the change in outlook toward Morecambe Bay on the later holes.
The new course opened in spring 1933 and Ashton Hall was converted into the clubhouse. A dormy-house operation was established early in the club's occupation. During the Second World War the hall was used as officers' quarters and parts of the property contributed to the war effort.
The club eventually purchased the clubhouse and land outright in 1993.
Lancaster continues to operate from Ashton Hall, combining its Braid-designed course with accommodation, dining, practice and professional facilities.
