Nordegg Historic Golf Course is a nine-hole public course in the former coal-mining community of Nordegg, Alberta. Local tourism sources trace golf on the site to 1916, making it one of Alberta's older golf locations. The original course later reached nine holes but fell out of use after the Brazeau Collieries mine closed in 1955.
A community-led revival began in 1990, when Nordegg Old-Timers and local golf enthusiasts restored four holes; the rebuilt course subsequently expanded to seven and then nine holes. The current layout is an executive-length par 32 measuring 1,999 yards from the White tees, with a course rating of 31.7 and slope of 92. A Red women's setup is also rated at 33.0 with a slope of 94.

Golf arrived in Nordegg while the community was still a growing coal-mining town. Local tourism material identifies 1916 as the original opening year, only a few years after Brazeau Collieries began operations and the railway reached the settlement. The early course initially contained fewer than nine holes and was later expanded, with historical accounts placing the move to nine holes in the 1930s.
Clearwater County's later development planning documents describe the course as having served Nordegg during the community's mining-era heyday and regard it as historically significant to the town. No reliable source located for this research identifies the person who designed the original layout.
No documented architect or formal design statement survives in the sources located. The present course is compact by modern standards and is officially characterized in municipal planning documents as executive length. Its current nine-hole par-32 layout measures about 2,000 yards.
The site occupies roughly 13 hectares of relatively flat land within the Nordegg townsite, with the surrounding mountain landscape forming a prominent part of the setting.
The closure of the Brazeau Collieries operation in 1955 caused most of Nordegg's population to leave, and the golf course was eventually abandoned and reclaimed by vegetation. Its modern revival began in 1990 through a small group of Nordegg Old-Timers working with other golf enthusiasts. Travel Alberta records that the revived course initially had four holes, then expanded to seven and eventually nine.
The community soon created an annual golf tournament, which continues as a July event. Clearwater County planning material later identified the course as being maintained and operated by the non-profit Nordegg Golf Association and discussed preserving historic portions of the existing course within any hypothetical future redevelopment.
Travel Alberta, David Thompson Country and local tourism organisations promote Nordegg Historic Golf Course specifically for its connection to the community's mining history. Clearwater County's development plan similarly identifies the course as historically significant because it served Nordegg during its peak coal-mining years.
The course remains operated by the Nordegg Golf Association, a non-profit community organisation, and is open to residents and visitors. The club publishes a CAD 25 regular green fee and offers child, youth, senior and adult memberships. Power carts, pull carts and golf clubs can be rented, while the clubhouse sells snacks, beverages, golf supplies and clothing.
Private tournaments are accommodated, and the annual club tournament is held on the third Saturday in July. Tee times are handled by telephone rather than through a published online booking engine.
