Old South was created in Bluffton as a public-access course serving both local golfers and Hilton Head visitors. Clyde Johnston designed the layout and it opened in 1991.

The course has received repeated Favorite Public Golf Course recognition from Hilton Head Monthly readers and was identified by Golf Digest among notable new public courses after opening.
Old South continues as an 18-hole public golf facility with practice, retail and food-and-beverage amenities.
