Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club is an 18-hole links on the Kāpiti Coast north of Wellington. Australian Open champion and golf architect Alex Russell designed the present course in 1949, working through coastal dune terrain and sandy ground. Golf New Zealand described the tournament setup as par 70 for the 2026 New Zealand PGA Championship.
The club has an unusually significant championship record: it has hosted the New Zealand Open 12 times, more than any other venue, with its most recent Open in 2002 won by Craig Parry in a field that included Tiger Woods. Visitors are accepted subject to tee-time availability, with the club noting that Monday-to-Thursday times are generally available and Friday-to-Sunday access is controlled around members and events. The property is at 376 Kapiti Road, Paraparaumu Beach.
The course is an 18-hole links golf course. Designed by Alex Russell, the course originally opened in 1949. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Clubhouse, Pro Shop, Practice Facilities.
The course's defining architectural chapter came in 1949 when Australian golfer and architect Alex Russell laid out the links across the Kāpiti Coast's undulating dune land. Russell had previously worked with Alister MacKenzie and brought a strategic approach suited to the site's sandy terrain.
The essential Russell routing has remained the basis of the course while Paraparaumu became one of New Zealand's principal championship venues.
Its championship record is exceptional within New Zealand golf. The club has staged the New Zealand Open 12 times, more than any other course. Golf New Zealand returned a major professional event to Paraparaumu in February 2026 with the New Zealand PGA Championship.
Paraparaumu remains an accessible visitor course as well as a members' club. Visitor availability is managed around member play and tournament commitments.
