Pebblewood Country Club

Origins

Pebblewood belongs to the early generation of southwest Michigan golf courses. Regional tourism organisations and multiple established golf directories date the course to 1923, making it more than a century old. The available historical sources do not identify who commissioned the course, why this particular property was selected or the architect responsible for the original routing.

Because no credible source supplies a named designer, the course is best left architecturally unattributed rather than assigning a speculative Golden Age architect.

Design Philosophy

The surviving layout is relatively short by modern standards. The principal White course measures 5,421 yards and plays to par 68, with an unusual distribution of eleven par fours, five par threes and two par fives. The front nine measures 2,534 yards at par 33, while the back nine stretches to 2,887 yards at par 35.

Regional tourism sources highlight nine lakes and ponds across the property, making water one of the clearly documented landscape elements. No reliable historical material was found describing an original architect's intended strategy or documenting a later comprehensive redesign.

Development

Pebblewood has continued operating as an 18-hole public course while adding the supporting amenities expected of a daily-fee facility. Current facilities include a clubhouse, restaurant and bar, banquet space and golf services. The property's covered bridge and numerous ponds have become identifying features in regional tourism descriptions.

Today

Pebblewood Country Club remains open to public play in Bridgman. The club publishes current nine- and 18-hole rates for both walking and riding, maintains an online tee-time presence through GolfNow, and runs an extensive weekly league schedule. The current official website also offers annual memberships while retaining daily-fee access for visitors.
