The golf property historically known as Pronghorn, now operating as Juniper Preserve, contains two separate 18-hole courses near Bend, Oregon rather than one combined layout. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Course opened in 2004 and currently measures 7,381 yards from the championship tees according to the resort. It was the first Jack Nicklaus Signature Course in Oregon and was designed as a high-desert course among juniper trees and exposed lava formations.
The second course is the Tom Fazio Championship Course, a separate par-72 layout measuring 7,400 yards and described by the resort as Fazio's first Oregon design. Access differs: the Nicklaus course offers resort tee times, while the resort describes the Fazio course as exclusive to Pronghorn Club members, although some stay packages may include access. Because the current database record names the resort rather than either individual course, combining the two architects, scorecards or course dimensions would create inaccurate data.
The course is a resort golf course. The course was designed by Nicklaus master golfer. It is open to resort guests. On-site facilities include Golf shop, Driving range, Golf academy, Accommodation.
Pronghorn was developed as a high-end golf community on Central Oregon's high-desert terrain northeast of Bend. Jack Nicklaus designed the first course, opening in 2004, while Tom Fazio was commissioned for a second distinct championship layout.
Nicklaus routed his course through juniper forest and around ancient lava-rock formations, creating what the resort calls the Northwest's original desert-style golf course. Fazio's separate course uses broader playing areas, larger greens and more contouring and funneling.
The Nicklaus course opened first in 2004. The property subsequently added the Fazio course, establishing a two-course golf operation. The resort later transitioned from the Pronghorn resort identity to Juniper Preserve while retaining Pronghorn Club branding for its golf membership.
Golf Digest ranked the Nicklaus course No. 2 among its Best New Private Courses for 2004. GOLF.com later included the Nicklaus course in its Top 100 Courses You Can Play for 2024-25.
Juniper Preserve currently operates both courses. The Nicklaus Signature Course has resort tee-time access, while the Fazio Championship Course is described by the resort as the exclusive Pronghorn Club course.
