The former Quarry Lakes Golf and Recreation property in Bowmanville, Ontario now operates as Quarry Lion Golf Resort. The current facility has a 12-hole executive course together with a substantial practice area. Quarry Lion's official site lists more than 30 driving-range mats, a grass tee area, putting and chipping greens and a practice bunker.
The course itself is described as having tight fairways, doglegs, water and sand hazards, and both red and blue tee blocks. The site has a longer golf history than the current 12-hole configuration: municipal planning records from 1998 document approval work for an 18-hole golf course under the Quarry Lakes Golf and Recreation Centre name, and historical scorecard sources describe that former layout as a par-65 course measuring 3,815 yards. The property later changed ownership and name, with the former Quarry Lakes operation announcing its closure while stating that golf would continue at the site.
The course is a 12-hole executive golf course. The course originally opened in 1995. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving Range, Grass Driving Range Tees, Putting Green, Chipping Green, Practice Bunker, Golf Lessons, Junior Golf Camp, Golf Cart Hire, and 2 more.
The golf property on Bowmanville Avenue predates the current Quarry Lion identity. Chronogolf's current listing states that the facility was built in 1995 around a large spring-fed lake. By 1997 and 1998, Quarry Lakes Golf and Recreation Centre Inc.
was appearing in Municipality of Clarington planning records seeking amendments connected with golf-course development on the site. In June 1998, Clarington adopted an Official Plan amendment specifically permitting development of an 18-hole golf course in the Green Space designation. Historical golf records subsequently describe Quarry Lakes as an 18-hole executive-style course.
No reliable named architect was found for either the original Quarry Lakes layout or the present Quarry Lion configuration. Historical records describe the former course as a short 18-hole, par-65 layout around a spring-fed lake, while the current operator characterises the remaining 12 holes as executive golf with tight fairways, doglegs, water and bunkers. The current practice facility is a major part of the property, with more than 30 hitting mats, a grass tee area, putting and chipping greens and a practice bunker.
The property has undergone a substantial operational change since its period as Quarry Lakes Golf and Recreation Centre. The former Quarry Lakes business publicly announced that it had closed while noting that the property would remain in golf use under new ownership. It subsequently operated under the Quarry Lion Golf Resort name.
Historical directories continued for a time to show the original 18-hole configuration, but the current operator now explicitly markets a 12-hole executive course. This means older scorecards, par data and 3,815-yard totals should not automatically be applied to the present course.
Quarry Lion Golf currently operates the Bowmanville property as a public 12-hole executive course and practice facility. Players can reserve rounds online through Chronogolf, while power carts can also be arranged directly with the pro shop. The facility provides a driving range with more than 30 mats and a grass tee area, putting and chipping greens and a practice bunker.
It also runs leagues, golf instruction, memberships, junior programmes and golf outings, with a snack bar and event facilities on site.
