Origins

A meeting at the Union Club in Walmer on 12 February 1892 established the Cinque Ports Golf Club. The founders leased 116 acres of coastal land north of Deal for a nine-hole links. Captain Urmston surveyed the ground, while Harry Hunter, assisted by his brother Ramsay, handled the detailed design and construction.

Play began on 30 May 1892.
