Sanctuary Lake Golf Course is an 18-hole, par-71 public course owned by the City of Troy, Michigan. Established in 2004, it occupies approximately 190 to 200 acres on the eastern side of Troy and was developed on land formerly used as a landfill. The official course description classifies the layout as links-style and lists four sets of tees ranging from about 4,750 to 6,555 yards.
Its open, rolling terrain includes ornamental grasses, ponds, approximately 80 bunkers and small, undulating bentgrass greens. GolfPass publishes a 6,554-yard Black tee rated 71.9 with a slope of 133, followed by Blue, White and Gold tee options. The site includes a clubhouse, full-service golf shop, Piper's Pub & Grille and a practice complex.

Sanctuary Lake was developed as the City of Troy's second municipal golf course on a large tract along South Boulevard near Dequindre Road. The property's earlier use was markedly different: the City of Troy identifies it as a former landfill site. Its conversion into a public recreation facility produced an 18-hole course occupying roughly 190 to 200 acres.
Municipal records date the course's establishment to 2004, making it much newer than Troy's other public course, Sylvan Glen, which dates to 1922. This distinction is important because the two courses are frequently presented together under the Golf Troy brand and their historical details can be inadvertently combined.
The completed course was arranged as a links-style layout across open, rolling ground rather than as a traditional tree-lined course. Official descriptions identify approximately 80 strategically positioned bunkers, small undulating bentgrass greens, ornamental grasses and ponds as its principal design features. Four teeing options were incorporated to provide total distances from roughly 4,750 to 6,555 yards.

Sanctuary Lake opened in 2004 as a full-service municipal golf operation with an 18-hole course, clubhouse, golf shop, grill room and substantial practice facility. In 2008, the City of Troy awarded management of Sanctuary Lake and Sylvan Glen to Billy Casper Golf, the management company now associated with Troon. A 2024 City Council document states that no major cart-path improvements had been completed at Sanctuary Lake since it opened.
The city subsequently approved a pavement project to replace worn sections of the course's cart paths, with the Sanctuary Lake portion budgeted as a municipal capital improvement.
Sanctuary Lake remains a City of Troy public course and is operated alongside Sylvan Glen under the Golf Troy identity. The present facility includes the par-71 course, a clubhouse with a full-service golf shop, Piper's Pub & Grille and a practice complex. The current official practice-facility description lists 70 hitting stations, five target greens and both natural and artificial hitting surfaces.
The course continues to use four principal tee sets, although published total yardages differ by one yard between the official course description and GolfPass. Tee times are offered directly through Golf Troy, with the official booking page stating that its best rates are available through direct online booking or the Golf Troy mobile application.
