Santo António Golf at Budens is the course formerly known as Parque da Floresta. The 18-hole layout was designed by Spanish architect Pepe Gancedo and opened in 1987. It runs through the hills behind Salema in the western Algarve, close to the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.
Gancedo's stated design approach was to minimise alteration of the existing terrain, and the resulting course uses pronounced elevation changes and natural slopes rather than a heavily levelled resort footprint. Current Portuguese golf sources list it as a par 71, with approximately 5,712 metres from the white tees and a 71.1 course rating and 132 slope from that configuration. The resort provides a 14-bay driving range, putting and short-game facilities, practice bunkers, pro shop, golf academy, buggy and trolley rental, club hire, locker facilities and clubhouse restaurant.
The course is an 18-hole resort golf course. It plays to par 71, 5,712m. Designed by José "Pepe" Gancedo, the course originally opened in 1987. It is open to the public. On-site facilities include Driving range, Golf academy, Putting green, Short-game area, Practice bunkers, Pro shop, Buggy rental, Trolley rental, and 6 more.
The course was developed near Budens as Parque da Floresta and opened in 1987.
Pepe Gancedo's design philosophy emphasised minimal alteration of the natural terrain. At Santo António this produced a strongly contoured routing across the hills and valleys behind Salema.
The resort and course were subsequently rebranded from Parque da Floresta to Santo António Villas, Golf & Spa.
The original Gancedo course remains the resort's 18-hole public golf facility, supported by an academy, practice range and clubhouse.
